Learn, learn and learn. This is where joining sites that are educational in approach can help. Keep in mind you get what you pay for, but you shouldn't have to bring the whole bank account with you. Some Links:

Find your link in the chain. Linking is one key to search engine popularity. Niche directories (like mine), swapping links with other sites, and submitting your site intelligently to search directories can keep spiders crawling over you all day (that's a good thing). You can link to me HERE.
Promote, promote and promote. This is where networking pays off. Brag on yourself a little! Go to forums and post. Host conferences and teach people. Post your best pages and stay active in the traffic exchanges. Resolve to learn SEO and market on the search engines. Eventually, your fame will spread far and wide. All you have to do is be nice and tell people you exist.
Build a team and coach. No I'm not talking about sports here: I'm talking about your list and the people who are with you in your business. When you are building your business, you should be quick to pick up on and build leaders and support teams to carry the message about you and your business. Mentor someone and let them know what you know and make them promise to return the favor to someone else. You will get a following, but to keep them they must get value for what you are trying to sell. Having examples of people you've helped along the way can do wonders for your reputation.
